Any Idea where to get a plan for this vice

I want to make a vice like the one at 2:00 in this video

Hi,
Just watched the video. That vice is using the fence behind as part of the "system" but it looks reasonably simple to make. I've never seen plans for it but rockler has a lot of videos out there so they might have done one on building the jig. If you have a rip fence with t-slots (520) then you could modify this to work with that.
I don't know what equipment you have but someone here came up with the idea of using a chuck to hold the blank and then with the drill mounted in the tail stock you can doing the drilling with excellent results. I took that information and when it came time to do my first pen that is the way I went.

Looks like a great chance to finally use the hole in the top of the 500's fence for a quick release toggle of some kind.

Why not use the fence and miter gauge as a jig and bore the hole in the horizontal boring mode? The table height determines center in one axis, the fence determines the center in the second axis, and the the miter gauge is used as the back-stop to register the pen blank in the same spot each time. If you want something to hold it in place besides your fingers, use a feather board and/or a small clamp.
And the depth setting on the headstock can be used to limit the depth of the hole should you wish to.

Methinks reversing the roles of the fence and miter gauge would make more sense.

Sounds good but you drill all the way through a blank for a pen. I was hoping to mount the jig to the fence so I could use it in the horizontal mode.

Is something stopping thee from placing a scrap piece between the fence and the work piece???;)

If you want to use the horizontal mode, "The Pen Turner's Bible" by Klienhenz has a jig he created for use on his SS.
He also recommends not drilling all the way through but instead to drill short and then cut off the blank end to expose the hole. That eliminates break out.
