hello

last week inherited a mark v, good shape needed cleaning and dusting off

serial number I60668, boxes of misc. parts and tools

make my living at metal fab. for 20+ years so alot is not lost on me

just the wood aspect.....

Welcome to the world of Shopsmith! Lots of folks here with tons of knowledge on the in a and out of your machine, so don't hesitate to ask any questions and make sure to post some pictures so folks can see your machine and what's in all those boxes...always a treasure hunt to unload a cache of SS stuff.

A couple of "first things" I would suggest:

Dig through those boxes and see if you have a copy of "Power Tool Woodworking for Everyone" - this book is essential reading for the operation basics on all the various modes of your SS. I imagine a copy is there somewhere in your stuff but if not, pick up a used copy off Amazon or E-Bay.

Inspect the condition of your bench and way tubes - these are the big tubes that are the backbone of your machine. You should remove any rust as needed (lots of info on this site on doing this if necessary) and then apply a coat of Johnson's Paste Wax or Minwax and buff them clean and smooth. This will not only protect them but make your headstock and carriage slide like butter on the way tubes. This is routine maintenance that should be repeated 1-2x a year or so, depending on your climate and shop conditions etc.

Inspect your headstock - is it running okay? Turn it on and then turn the speed control up/down and see if it seems to operate smoothly (never turn the speed control knob without the machine running). Does the quill move in/out smoothly? Lots of folks on this site with way more knowledge than me about assessing and maintaining your headstock but this is a good place to start to assess the condition of your machine. You'll want to remove the inspection and pulley covers and clean out any saw dust that's collected in there over the years, as well as lube it at the necessary points. THis is alaso necessary routine maintenance.

From the serial number you have 1983 model, that is often one of the question new members ask so I'll save you the time of asking... or did you already know that?

We are all so quite good at identifying parts, boxes often contain some not so easy to identify parts and a few non-shopsmith items as well. If it is shopsmith we will know, the other "stuff" is a turkey shoot.

It is suspicious because of the clumsy wording and repetition etc.

Could be an english language challenged person but dem in de past have popped up and disappeared!

Could be a very young person also.

Would be a shame to discourage either of them by accusing them of spamming.

Only future posts(or lack thereof) will reveal the 'truth'.
