When ripping my Mark V seems to be underpowered

I am a new user of an older model Mark V. I love everything about it, but when I am ripping 2" lumber, it seems to be underpowered. I have replaced the main drive belt and am using a new thin kerf blade but even so, when ripping a cedar 2x4, and using what I think to be a very slow feed, I still have to stop regularly to allow it to come back up to speed. Is this typical or am I doing something wrong?
Thanks for the help from some of you who have "been there, done that".
I have it set or "R" with on the dial reads "Saw-joint". The wood was dry.
It is a Mark V - color is gray.
I am using a 5/8" arbor with a Frued blade.

What speed are you using? Is the cedar wet?

Also 'older' as in What color? Is it a Mark V or a Mark 5?

My SS also bogged down ripping 2X lumber a couple weekends ago - I figured it was a dull blade, and since I don't have a 5/8" arbor nor spare blades, I ended up ripping on my RAS which is just plain scary!
Ripping soft wood is hard work for a saw, but I was still surprised at the bogging. It will be interesting to see the responses and suggestions in this thread.
Meantime, I'm ordering a 5/8" chuck so I can buy a blade when I need one without worrying about shipping/backorder time...

I was having the same problem until I looked at the speed chart. For heavy ripping, the chart recommended a slower speed, in the case of the 510, setting of "O". After making that setting, all the problems went away.

I agree with Shydragon. I had a bogging problem when ripping also. Since turning the speed to the "P" setting, I haven't had any more bogging when ripping. I do all my sawing at that setting now.

In addition to using the right speed, be sure to use the riving knife if there's one for your saw to keep the kerf open.
Wet wood, twisted wood and knotty wood is difficult to rip.

When did it switch from being a Mark V to Mark 5? When the 510 was introduced?

Actually it went from a Mark 5 to a Mark V.
