I am having some difficulty with wood boring. I have bored on a lathe and it comes out straight, what I am finding is that when I bore in the lathe position the bore begins in the center and then ends up offcenter. Does anyone have any suggestion?

by "boring in the lathe position" do you mean that you have something mounted to the headstock spindle and are boring with the bit mounted to the tailstock?
if so, there have been several discussions here about the proper way to mount the tailstock so that any flex is minimized.
a description or picture of your setup would help narrow down the best suggestions.
