It's a 1987 model 510 I got at an estate sale. Appears to have been lovingly maintained.

My question is about about a jointer that i have the opportunity to purchase. They list the model number as # 505681-B , serial # SS93177 but I can't seem to confirm if this would fit my '87 SS.

I looked here:

...but no joy. Is there an easy way to know if this jointer is compatible? Also, I'm not sure how it mounts, do I need mounting tubes or does it just slide onto the "head stock support"?

Looking at the info in your last link, I would conclude that yours was manufactured in Jan/Feb 1986.

I have put a 1958 jointer on a 2007 Mark V, and vice versa -- I think you'll be fine....

For maximum mounting flexibility, the stubby eccentric posts are good to have. See item #61:

If the jointer just has straight-pipe posts, then it's not as easy to line up with the Mark V jointer shaft. It can be done with some frame fiddling, but the eccentric posts are the easier way to go.

All versions(colors) of the jointer model 620 will fit any Mark 5 or Mark V or Mark VII or Mark 7.

The older model 4(rarely seen) only fits the 10E/ER with a special headrest.

It mounts on tubes that slide into the SPT mounts on the end castings. The older mounting tubes are straight, but later ones have an offset.

The reason for 'no joy' was "it does fit all"(almost).
