Mark VII a start and a long ways to go..

Those are unusual pop rivits, not screws. If you can see the way to reinstall the rack then I would remove them.

I looked inside the tube and it looked like they were a tapered screw with fine threads. I’m going to remove them and put in new racks. Pop rivets to reinstall or maybe some other sort of attachment. I’ve reviewed your breakdown and new rack add, thanks for that.

The gentleman rebuilding my GE motor said he can’t get this bearing off and is getting ready to throw in the towel. Here is a pic where he is at, any suggestions?

yup, pop rivits not screws, you right and me not so much... interesting, opposite tube is also drilled for a rack.

I can't help with the bearing, I didn't replace mine, but you're already talking to the right guy about that.

Just FYI, I finished the cam parts and they work fine mounted on my Mark VII. They're not perfect but functional. If you end up eventually needing them they're yours, if not, no worries at all. It was a great learning experience for me, and I can always use them on my backup headstock.

Ya know... that was what I was thinking but he's done them before so I didn't want to insult him. I'm gonna text him to see if he got it off and ask him. thanks for the heads up.

Never got an answer on that, but he was able to remove bearing, thanks again.

Sheet metal parts out for powder coating, tubes cleaned up, motor back, new casters in, a beautiful custom piece by Mike is in and being admired. Thank you Mike, beautiful work!

Still cleaning parts and polishing, wondering if this phase will ever end….

Was able to get a switch and keyed cylinder, that will be my next probable headache,…pic following

Wasn’t cheap and I’m hoping it works. I found a guy that was having a hard time getting rid of one back east and told him if he decided to part it out to let me know. Hopefully it works and I can figure out the wiring from all the info on here. Thanks again my friend.

Hi JPG- Everything in and everything from same source in that pic, not sure what you are referring to “ did it include the MVII stuff attached?”

The parts that attach to the lock that provide interlocking of the switch between fwd and rev.

Hidy, howdy ho there neighbor. Just checked back in from a fairly long absence. I have a couple of Mark VIIs myself and just returned one to service. I have a set of new aftermarket rack teeth kit that I did not use if you want it. PM me for the address, and I will ship out.

My Mark VII has a Mark V carriage on it, so I could not mount the rack to my tube or it would interfere with the table motion. I now have one setup form rip cutting and my wood guy is making stringers for a boat rebuild. I have the second one set up for drill press and just replaced all bearings.

A word of caution, if you try to buy a belt set on ebay it will NOT fit your Mark VII. The V belt is too short, and the ribbed belt is too narrow. You would need to match what you have for a perfect fit. I have a Mark V belt kit that I can't use also.

Now, you mentioned the vac system missing some bits. A word of caution on the vac system. It was poorly designed, poorly executed and will not stand up to very much nominal use. I worked on my vac setup for quite a bit of time, and in the end, I've just left it mostly alone. The nozzles crack easily, the impellers are soft and cheap, and the small motor shaft extension is easily broken off when removing the impeller. None of the vac parts are avail from SS, and they barely know what a Mark VII was.

I envy your full restoration. Mine are hard working, hard looking, hard drinking machines. You can search my username and find some repair posts from months past. Keep up the good work. I will check back in once in a while.

Hi Docmirror,

Thank you for the offer on the rack but already have a new one in hand. Haven’t purchased belts yet, so thank you for the info. The vacuum system is pretty much not gonna happen. I guess I’m doing more of a resto-mod VII and making it to fit my needs and liking. It’s going to look good but probably will not be to the level of the incredible restorations of others on this forum.

A wide MVII (14 rib) poly-v belt is available on line from Band Saw Tire Warehouse. I may have influenced him to get some made, so i would appreciate it if you would purchase one(or two).

Motor belt proper length is a bit murky.

I DO recommend having a spare.
