I got it. Turned everything by hand. What an idiot. After adjusting the belt tension, everything works great! Interesting that the belt really didn’t feel that loose.

I think when I first discovered my problem I turned the shop smith off when it was at high speed. Is there a correct way to dial it back down while the machine is off. That was dumb of me.

Thanks for the replies. I bought the shopsmith new in 2005. I will take the side cover off this weekend and inspect the belts. I don't recall any odd noises when encountering the problem. Maybe I will do a test run before inspecting the belts and listen for odd noises. I will also check the blade ...
