Going to finish cleaning and lubing the headstock parts and look at fixing/replacing the motor control piece that attaches to the face plate and then I should be in business!

Great news, the motor works! Replaced the starting capacitor and it fired right up! After rewiring the switch, that is, must have pulled something loose when monkeying around in there.

How did you check the capacitor? If you check a capacitor with a multimeter set to Ohms you will get infinity, an open circuit (nothing?).
I discharged the capacitor and attached the leads from the multimeter. If it’s good it should start at 0 and climb to infinity as the multimeter charges it ...

Initial testing indicates the capacitor is shot. I connected my multimeter and got nothing. The windings appear to be okay, reading 8 ohms

The thingy in the middle turns out to be an old Craftsman table saw blade guard mounting bracket (googled the part number).

Opened her up and looks like someone’s been in here before, as it has a V belt instead of the older version.
