Thank you ALL. This group seems like a great bunch of folks!
I eventually removed the main drive belt and was able to reach in and position the motor after I replaced th Ed bottom shroud into place.
All back together and my newly modified 1994 ShopSmith Mark V is now a “shorty”

Inadvertently removed the 4 screws holding the motor
So how do reattach the motor?
All I wanted to do was inspect the belt, clean things up and lube the sliding shaft.
Now I’ve created a problem
