Inadvertently removed the 4 screws holding the motor

So how do reattach the motor?

All I wanted to do was inspect the belt, clean things up and lube the sliding shaft.

Now I’ve created a problem

Been there, done that. Shouldn't be that hard to deal with. Turns out there's no need to remove a working motor from the motor pan on a conventional headstock. Eventually I even forgot how to remove the motor and pan together until I checked with the guys here. Once again something obvious after the fact.

A good place to start would be to slide the belt cover off to the left. To do that, remove hubs or anything else from the two auxiliary shafts on the left side if anything is on them. Then remove two screws (more on older models) and the belt cover should slide off to the left staying on the way tubes. Once that is out of the way you might have enough access to get the screw holes aligned to get the motor mount screws back in.

I eventually removed the main drive belt and was able to reach in and position the motor after I replaced th Ed bottom shroud into place.

All back together and my newly modified 1994 ShopSmith Mark V is now a “shorty”

I will use it as a sander and jointer and as a small lathe if need be.

I just purchased a Laguna 18/36 Lathe and 16” Bandsaw.
