Okay - Here's where I'm at on this guys: The set screw in the speed control knob was bad and was not turning the shaft when you attempted to set the speed. I put in a new set screw and for the first time in my life was able to peek in and actually see how the pulley wheels moved when you adjusted th...

I studied the picture you sent and it looks pretty much like mine except a tad bit cleaner. One thing which may make a difference on mine: The worm gear seems to have traveled past the gear teeth on the lamb chop(?) I don't know if this is leaving the machine stuck in the full high speed or low spee...

I'm beginning to think there must be something wrong with the belt. I read and followed the suggestions posted here and everything went just fine. I put the belt back on without any problem and got it turned about a half turn and it hung up again. When I use the sanding disk to turn the shaft the in...

I did find a video that said the drive belt should mike out at least .50 wide and mine is a .511 so that is not the issue. You guys gave me a...

A ps to my last post: I finally got a look at the idler pulley and the belt was indeed caught under several of the flanges on the logo side of the pulley. With a considerable amount of finangling I got it loose twice and everything seemed to turn over smoothly until I attempted to re-attach the belt...

Thanks JPG I'm learning as I go on this one. I dropped the bottom cover by removing the four sheet metal screws and got the drive belt off that way - don't know if that is the approved way or not. Reattached and the motor hummed perfectly without the drive belt attached and so that is not the proble...

Motor humming but going nowhere.
I just bought a shopsmith 3 weeks ago - 1957 model - and have used it sparingly while I studied up and got myself familiarized with it. Last night I turned it on and just as it finished revving up there was a lound screech and everything came to a halt. I turned it off and when I flipped the switch ...
