Indiana SS Folk

Max Monts here just outside of Bloomington. I got my mid-80s ShopSmith 11 years ago and have done all sorts of remo, casework, furniture and turning with it. I've had a PowerPro now for just 'bout a year, and it's SSSOOO great for lathe work, that I haven't even tried the other functions yet. For us...

KelMcn Coring System

Good day! I've FINALLY gotten my Universal Lathe Tool Rest (backordered last MARCH - so keep hope alive!!). WOW!! What an accessory! It lives up to the SS hype, too! Here's the REAL question, however...Has anyone out there in SS land bought and used the Kel McNaughton Bowl Coring System for the Shop...

Testimonial for Jacob

Good (Cold!) Day! I had my early-80's SS headstock rebuilt by Mr. A in October. I'd bought it well-used on eBay 10 yrs. ago and have put MANY hours on it myself. I THOUGHT my good ol' SS was a sweet machine, but after Jacob rebuilt it, I could NOT believe how far-off original my machine was. My spee...

Now, we're talkin! AND polishing!

To Roy, Paul, Tim, Ed, et.al., This thread just keeps getting better and better! Thanks for all the clarification of just what these adapters are, each's unique components, their uses, drawbacks, etc. I've made a wooden chuck/collet from a 3x3x3 in. block of hard maple scrap (as per Ed's idea): - I ...

Nearing a solution...

Greetings from the (finally) sunny Midwest! At least it ain't snowin'... Thanks for all your subsequent posts since my last (it's been a bear of a week with my lil' huggers in class...) Now that it's the weekend, and I can again engage in sawdust therapy (as well as crafting the finest in sawdust an...

Yikes!

Well, I hope the main pic is OK with y'all. The end shots (esp. morse taper - almost poked me in the eye when I opened it!) certainly leave something to be desired for providing clarity. As you could see from the main shot, that end is tapered, really...

WOW! Thanks!

To those who've responded so far, SUPER ideas!! Ed, your thoughts on a hardwood collet are so simple and elegant, I woulda never thought of it! And, kudos for the WoodCraft link. kd6vpe was kind enough to include your link. Charlese and Tim were spot-on with the warning against the drill chuck, and ...

Beall 3-On Mandrel Buffing System

Good day, I've owned my VERY used ShopSmith for 10 years. It had no serial # plate, so I can't date it exactly, but it's a rough gray, so I'm guessing c. '84. It'd already been upgraded w/ polyV belt and dbl. bearing quill. My only eBay purchase, it was in GREAT shape, all specs. were w/in tolerance...
