You have perfectly described and pictured my old speed control. I had mistakenly assumed that my speed control was bent.

I will see if I can find something to bring the quadrant and control sheave into closer alignment.

I assume by 'speed control arm' you mean the quadrant. If so, it should line up directly in front (back) of the control sheave shaft. See the following: third photo in post #6 and first photo in post #8.

If it doesn't line up - there is likely something awry with the "Idler shaft assembly" or the ...

I have another related question. The speed control arm does not line up straight with the center of the control sheave.

Is there an adjustment that can be made or does this indicate that something is bent which has thrown them out of alignment?

Okay, I was able to slide the spring/bearing around the corner so that it is now positioned the same as the two of you have shown me in your pictures.

The loop is part of the control sheave.

After the entire machine is assembled the loop can be coaxed to swing over the speed control assembly. The spring (a single metal leaf) on the speed control must be pushed toward the control sheave and while held down with one finger, the loop can be coaxed ...

Regarding the sequence of installation, is the loop attached to the control sheave first? Do you then have to insert the speed control through the loop while installing the speed control or can the loop swing over the end of the speed control after the speed control has already been installed?

I have looked at pretty much everything and cannot find any illustration that shows the quadrant loop in any detail. Even the videos do not show it clearly.
