Yep, definitely wet wood - I learned another lesson :) I did actually check if my blades were on backwards but they were correct. I ran through a piece of dry european beech i had laying around and it planed just fine. Interestingly, I tried running the piece of pine on my shopsmith jointer and it w...

Yep, tried turning it around and tried a couple of other pine boards as well. I got them all at the same time so none have had a chance to really dry yet.

Trouble sharpening planer blades and planing pine

I 'think' I may be having an issue trying to sharpen my planer blades. I recently purchased a used shopsmith (not pro) planer. The previous owner ran a piece of oak through it and although it left a couple of very minor nicks, the board planed just fine. I brought it home and hooked it up to my shop...

I finally got around to picking up the belts from Grainger this past week. I picked up the 26.5" delco as JPG mentioned. This one is definitely the right length - compared to the shopsmith brand belt I have (ever so slightly smaller, but the shopsmith is used). The width is, mentioned .53"...

Bill, that is great to know. I saw 26.5" belts from both Gates and Dayton but thought them to be too long. I'll try picking up a 26.5" and see how it stacks up. I haven't had a chance to look at the Dayton one, but Grainger carries it and they have a store right by my work so I might swing...

The belt that I removed from my brownie a few months ago was a shopsmith brand. I went and looked through my past orders. The belt that I replaced it with was the Gates Truflex 2260. I am not sure if I'm allowed to post a link, but you can find it on amazon. Now that I think about it, that was actua...

Actually, I did find the drivebelt on amazon for around 5 bucks. Just looked for a 26" V-belt with a 1/2" top and found one that matched dead on. Have been running it in my brownie for a couple of months and it runs great. I think it was a Gates brand...

Well that was a bit embarassing :o I looked through the whole headstock item index and the belt was in the most commonly ordered items section. Like you said Ed, it does appear to be out of stock. I wonder if there's any way to order it straight from Goodyear... Thanks for the help and for the welco...

Where to buy the gilmer belt?

I recently bought a beaten up old greenie (1955 s/n#296263) and started fixing it up. I have a few items on order via ebay and otherwise, but the one thing I can't seem to find is the gilmer belt. The old belt was cracking pretty bad and when I removed it, I noticed it said Goodyear 507032 right on ...

Hey guys, my first post on this forum. I have owned a brownie for a few months now and like it so much that when i found a beaten up old greenie, I had to pick it up. Serial number 296263. I'll take some pics when I get a chance, but the unit is in a poor shape. The motor runs, but the speed control...
