Remounting Old Glory (project pics/story)

My coworker asked me to remount a special trophy/plaque he's had for about 20 years that fell from the top of a fridge, shattered in a few spots (he re-glued) but also split the base plate in half! (it seems to be a solid piece of 4/4 maple, but it was small and the trophy is fairly heavy). My thoug...

Thanks for this, always nice to get a tip on good information.

In fact, I came here to post some questions on specific turning questions, but I might get this book instead as a reference :)

If you do the square plugs over countersunk screws, like I mentioned ,it will match the lower joints perfectly.good luck either way. That's a real nice piece.. Yes I forgot to say I liked your approach the best - it preserves the square look of the joinery and should be pretty easy to pull off. Once ...

Thanks all for the comments. The lines I mistakenly called pencil lines are actually gauge lines (cuts). I sanded the entire chest, but didn't realize they were there and of course they only showed up once I applied the light coat of stain. I think for this project, I'm just going to leave them ther...

First chest 90% done - advice needed.

Hello everyone! It's been a while since I've posted because I've been busy! In the meantime, I managed to pick myself up a nice used Jet 6" jointer (finally!) It's the one with the 55" bed or so, pretty nice! That's after losing a sweet buy on a SS 510 with jointer and bandsaw for $550 :( ...

Haha thanks all :) To clarify - this is a military coin. For those not familiar, typically the military gives out coins for certain things (or lets you buy them). Commanders can coin troops, various squadrons, flights, associations can have a coin, etc. I know at least the Air Force does it. THIS pa...

All's not lost just yet! :)

Ya'll might remember my "first picture frame" thread here: https://forum.shopsmith.com/viewtopic.php?t=14245 So anyway, I was working on the second frame, and I was very, very sloppy. In the end, I had to scrap the entire second frame and redo it (and the redo is so, so much better). I was...

Yeah I thought about using another fence or even attaching a second fence (the fence extension from my miter gauge ... Doesn't work by the way ) but figured I would be just as accurate if I just eyeballed it vs building another contraption. I figure the table saw miter jig is probably worth the hass...

Thanks Charlese and yes I could have messed up the beginning of the miters by cutting the wrong side against the short fence and then didn't realize it until later. Larger problem is, though, that the large fence just isn't long enough for large framing if you also want to use the stop, so I had to ...
