Taint so! Watts are Watts regardless if at 240v or at 120v. The 240v motor can be run on 120v(rearrange 4 wires). The advantage of the 240v motor is the decreased current draw(current is halved). Also greatly reduces the start up surge current. I bought my Goldie new that way, even though it requir...

Hi, I guess I'm wondering why one would want to go to 220 motor? From what I've read here I see no compelling reason for a change except change. You get no more power from a 220 setup, and you loose the ability to use it almost everywhere. My shopsmith has moved between two homes with me and has be...

Thanks BigJohn1. I will check the serial nbr and hope that will tell me if I am getting 1 1/8 hp. I assume I can always upgrade the tables (can I?) so I will try to get the bigger hp motor. Do you agree? Rich Yes I agree with JP for that price you can't go wrong and it has the 1 1/8 motor. I also t...

Thanks Bigjohn1. Being a newbie can you tell me the major differences between the above models? Is the unit the same but with table differences or what? Thank for your help here.. Rich Rick Most of the changes are in the table, Older models have 3/4 horse motors and the newer ones have 1 1/8 HP. If...

http://newjersey.craigslist.org/tls/2545190319.html Even though the ad says $700 he has reposted for $325. May I get some opinions on this one? Thanks:) Rich 700 Hundred was good if it were a 510 this is a 500. But I think 300.00 is a good price or even the 325.00 what he is asking is not bad. IMO

quill

This quill on the greenie has a shine to it not just black. I just thought some had dual bearing and some had one on this one from the spline looking down in I can see a bearing about 3 inch inside some play but runs smooth. The fellow before me changed the gilmore belt but couldn't get it to run. I...

Quill back bearing has some play or movement it is less the 3 to 4 inch from the end this bearing does that mean there is two bearings?
