Just got the kit to put the Shopsmith Deputy together. I bit pricey but I am thrilled that I will have the old headstock working again.
Any reason you shouldn’t tilt the Deputy? Anyone have one and have any advice. Thanks again to the brain trust.

If you are really just starting out turning then the shopsmith set of tools is a good starting place. They are not the quality of some tools but then the price is not anywhere as high either.
Keep in mind that the tools are a starting point but you will need to sharpen them. Shopsmith sells ...

None actually. It would be nice for a company I support with my dollars to support workers in the USA if at all possible.JPG wrote:A simplistic question regarding a complex decision.
What makes you think any of the steel is of USA origin?

Re: Made in the USA or best price on turning tools or anything..
I am really new to turning. I thought I would expand my use of my Shopsmith by doing some turning projects. I always admired turning so I thought I would get into it. It would be fun to work on next years Christmas gifts instead of buying someone else work.

Made in the USA or best price on turning tools or anything..
 I am shopping for some turning tools. In some cases the tools seem similar with the exception is the price. As an example, Rockler has some turning tools that have great recommendations, similar features, cheaper - by about 40 bucks each - but made in Taiwan.

Re: Rebuild or New PowerPro
Or, if you are handy with tools and have some extra time, you might want to consider doing the upgrade yourself. This way you will have backup parts in case you need to pull the PP out for whatever reason down the road. You will same some money and also become acquainted with how things work.

Just checked with Doug. It looks like new if you are a veteran, Lowe’s might be the ticket.jsburger wrote:Another good way is to buy from Doug Reid. He always has discounts.

Rebuild or New PowerPro
Asking the brain trust.
I am about to pull the trigger on a PowerPro.
Is there a good time to buy? Does Christmas bring a sale.
I am down to having mine rebuilt or just getting a new off the shelf PowerPro. Is new worth it? I have a late 80’s Mark V.
Thanks for the advice. Let the games ...
