I'll start looking on ebay, or the shopsmith site.JPG40504 wrote:It bears mentioning that that end has a left hand thread!!!!
Also there is only one position(distance handle screws onto the rod) that is correct. You should be able to see through the hole completely when properly aligned.

billmayo wrote:Yes, The above is excellant information. I find I may have to grind additional clearance in the casing to prevent the quill feed assembly teeth from rubbing the housing.
Thanks guys, I'll take a careful look when I start putting this thing back together.

mark v headstock question
I went to paint the headstock casing yesterday and noticed a worn area. I think it's where the quill rests and spins. This will be my first attempt to attach a picture, so I hope it works, and I hope someone has some good news for me. I guess i need to know if anyone thinks that the casing is still ...

Greenie. I finally got the roll pin out,but....
I finally got the roll pinout of the headstock lock handle. I was so happy. Then when I went to screw the handle off, the threaded rod broke off inside the handle where roll pin hole was. What's the best option now? Just get a whole new assembly?

another shopsmith
I just got back from a 4 week vacation in Norway, where I found nary a shopsmith. I'm still working on my greenie. This shopsmith stuff is addicting,
I just bought a 10E on ebay for .99. The seller said it runs. I must have a thing for rust removal.

I am guessing that the previous user on my machine installed a new gilmer belt and stopped there when it wouldn't work.
That allinonewood web site looks it might be my new best friend. At least it should eliminate me asking some elementary level questions to you all.
Thanks again
Joe

Never heard of a roll pin. I was searching old posts for it when i saw your reply.
I've nerver heard of a gilmer belt until 4 days ago, but I think it's the one with all the ribs on the inside. I'm still a far way from dealing with the headstock rebuild. That seems like it will be a challenge.

Mark V almost disassembled
I've got it almost completely apart now. Surprised to find a 2 bearing quill (not sure if it is good or not). Also, what looks like an almost new gilmer belt. On the bad side, the quill feed lever is missing and the speed dial is missing some teeth, time to check ebay. I have one question tonight. I...
