If ya replace the power cord, CUT the old power cord off, but leave the orginal connect with about 6" of wire left on. So yo can tell where the new ones go.:D

It sound like you need to take that headstock apart and clean/lube up all the shafts and sheaves in the drivetrain. Something is binding and putting an unusual load on that motor. And it maybe, just maybe, be in the speed control lol.

I tried to start the Mark V today, after lubing everything visible and using the sander to lower the speed to its lowest, as suggested. It ran for about 30 seconds before popping the breaker. FORGET right hand left hand side .:D YES the headstock needs to face the other way. BTW, the ponytail is what locks and unlocks the way tubes so you can raise or lower it from the drill press position. Also in the pic, the ponytail is unlocked.

See the pony tail on the right hand end in the pic. The quill should be pointing the other way.
