Re: Well Maintained Model ER

Redcloudz, Welcome to the Shopsmith Forum. The part of my quote that is important here is The tool was so popular the single plant could not keep up with the orders so an Eastern company was contracted to produce them for the Eastern half of the US. Shopsmith Model 10E and 10ER tools with an E or ER...

Re: 10E Early Serial Number

MCrabb, Welcome to the Shopsmith Forum. Your Model 10E serial number 1009 is not only from the original 250 units made that started it all but is now the lowest serial number I have seen. It was made/shipped in November 1947 to one of the West Coast Montgomery Ward Stores. It is believed the Model 1...

Re: Hands On Magazine question

treknoid, Welcome to the Shopsmith Forum. Owning a Shopsmith is not a requirement here so again welcome. I don't know of a location to find digital copies of the old, printed Hands On magazine. The ones I have collected mostly came with Shopsmith tools I have purchased to restore. You can find them ...

Re: New to me ER10 Issues - Way Tubes and motor question....

sm69th, Welcome to the Shopsmith Forum. Since the Carriage moves on the Way Tubes and they aren't in that bad of shape the Headstock is either "gummed up" on the Way Tubes or the lock is not releasing. Try removing the Headstock Lock just above the Way Tube on the left side of the Headstoc...

Re: Shopsmith "Self Study Course"

An update on these reference materials that expand on the information contained in the manuals is long overdue. Congratulations Stephen on following through with this Self Study Guide update with the co-operation of Shopsmith. That is quite an undertaking to edit and update both the text and picture...

Re: Shopsmith Machine, painted green, Mark 2

I didn't really mention my use of JB Weld in my last post. I have used JB Weld on restorations but not on the Way or Bench Tubes. The most common use I have had for it is filling in the "accidental" cut marks found on the Miter's Protractor. You can see a saw cut through the face of the Mi...

Re: Shopsmith Machine, painted green, Mark 2

Ed, As for the metal Bench Tubes or Wood Rails, either could be fabricated. To the best of my knowledge, they use the same legs so both have the holes for bolting the legs and bench ends on in the same places. Both of the Mark 2s I own have the metal Bench Tubes which are 1-3/4" in diameter. As...

Re: Power Cord Replacement

Although installing the Power Cord Strain Relief in a round hole will hold it in place it can allow the strain relief to rotate in the hole. This can twist the wires inside the Headstock and could cause problems.

Re: Shopsmith Machine, painted green, Mark 2

Let's cover your questions and comments. The Logo/Serial Number Plate on the Mark 2 was indeed glued on. In fact, the one I restored already had the plate fall off, so I used contact cement to glue it back on. Contact cement or similar is what it looked like was used originally. The Way and Bench Tu...
