Re: Shopsmith Mark 5 What When and Where
I did link this thread in the Topic Newowner Information JPG started that is pinned to the top of the Maintenance and Repair section on page 12. It also has the links to the Model 10 What When and Where plus the SPT's What When and Where topics. The Newowner Information topic is a great place to sta...

Re: Sheave Spacer missing
I rechecked the Parts Diagram and List from 3/74 and no spacer shown nor is it listed in the parts list. A section of that Parts Diagram is shown below. _ 3-74 parts diagram.jpg . Could it be that because it was included on the Mark VII in the 1960's they added it to Mark 5's made then but later sto...

Re: Bandsaw basket case?
StoneyD, There is more than one possible cause for your incorrect speeds. The simplest might be the Speed Control Dial being out of position. When turned down to the slowest speed with the Speed Control Handle does it go past the slow position towards fast? If so, the Speed Control Dial needs to be ...

Re: Bandsaw basket case?
StoneyD, Since you are doing an overhaul of your Bandsaw I have an additional recommendation for you. If yours is an older Bandsaw it may not have the Nylon Bolt in the Guide Bracket for the Upper Guide Column. The picture below shows the Nylon Bolt in place on the bracket mounted in the Bandsaw. _ ...

Re: Motor stalls occasionally
As JPG said, Occasional blowing out the accumulated crud may help prevent this. If done often enough, blowing the dust and debris out of the Headstock will help keep the "crud" out of the motor itself. This will also help keep the dust from "gumming up" other moving parts in the ...

Re: Shopsmith Mark 5 What When and Where
It is time for an update. Shopsmith has reintroduced the Conventional Headstock on what is now being called a Mark 5. This is what was last called a Mark V 520S which was discontinued not too long ago. This reincarnation using the name Mark 5 will certainly add to the confusion of "what Mark mo...

Re: Bandsaw basket case?
StoneyD, Bandsaw basket case? It may look that way but everything "wrong" with it can be fixed. I own or have owned 11 Shopsmith/Magna Bandsaws ranging from 1056 to 2006. I have even had one with the rubber tires cracked as you described for yours. What a pain to remove and getting the whe...

Re: Two different quill lengths for greenie?
Lchance62, Welcome to the Shopsmith Forum. The shorter Quill Assembly came from one of two possible sources. As JPG said the Mark 2 used a shorter Quill than the Mark 5. The other possible source would be a 1961 "Goldie" Mark 5 with a C hand engraved at the end of the serial number. See th...

Re: Sheave Spacer missing
Glad to hear you were able to get it all back together. I still can't tell when the spacer use began. The oldest manual I have found it in so far is a Mark V 500 & 510 combo manual dated 3/86. It wasn't included in the parts drawings as late as the Mark 5 Parts List and Drawings I have dated 3/7...
