Re: Trying to Date my grandfathers Shopsmith
Your Grandfathers Shopsmith Model 10ER serial number R46742 was probably made in very late 1950. As I said before there are not any records like the Mark 5/V has as to when one was made. There are a few things we do know such as Model 10ER serial number R53198 was made in the Western Plant in April ...

Re: Gallery of Restorations
Looks nice John!
Do I see the thin-walled Way Tubes? Does it have the hollow Table Posts?
I don't see the Upper Saw Blade Guard and was wondering if it has the later plain one seen on the bottom in the picture below.

Re: Universal lathe tool rest with lift assist
The 1982 Mark V I restored and all earlier Mark 5's have the single set screw but my 2001 and 2006 Mark V's have the two set screws.

Re: Tilting the 520 the other way…
camerio, I have seen posts of owner's trying to make Double Tilt Ends out of the conventional Base and Arm Bench Ends successfully. It is not just the Double Tilt Bench Ends that are needed to do under table routing and shaping. The Table Posts included for the Double Tilt Upgrade have the gear teet...

Re: A-34 Jigsaw Mounting Bolt
Although a slotted set screw is the OEM ones used for the A-34 Jig Saw to adjust it on the Model 10 Headstock a standard hex head set screw is a suitable replacement. Finding a replacement slotted pair would be difficult. I understand wanting to keep the Jig Saw having the original parts as much as ...

Re: Universal lathe tool rest with lift assist
I can't tell you when the change occurred but older Tailstocks had only one set screw (seen in first picture below) to hold the eccentric center in place. Later Tailstocks have two set screws as seen in the second picture below. _ single set screw r.jpg . . double set screw r.jpg . It sounds as thou...

Re: A-34 Jigsaw Mounting Bolt
In my first post here I mentioned that the early version of the A-34 Jig Saw has an open Lower Frame Assembly. The picture below is my early A-34 Jig Saw showing the openings in the Lower Frame Assembly and the Upper Frame (arm) as indicated by the arrows. The area under the oval is where the Lower ...

Re: Everything E / ER - Technical info, documentation, links
If the Upper Saw Blade Guard has been re-painted, paint could be "clogging" up the slot causing more friction for the Splitter. You could try folding a piece of sandpaper in half and working it into the Splitter Slot and sand down the surfaces. Emery Boards can be used too. JPG's suggestio...

GrizzlyLawyer,
In answering questions, I tend to include related information others may find helpful in reading topics looking for similar information. In this case my "related" information was what you were actually seeking.
I hope all goes well cleaning up the threads in the Table.

I understand bringing the points together to check alignment. I do the same thing. If I remember correctly that is what I was trying to show in that Lathe Points picture used in another past topic here.
