Re: Engraving Guidelines in 500 Main Table Top
I'm curious! Does the left side of the blade align with the center line of the table insert when the quill is fully retracted? Yes, but ... only with a standard 1.25" arbor. With my 5/8" arbor, no. And with my modified lower saw guard, washers on post interfere with rubber stop, so I rout...

Re: Engraving Guidelines in 500 Main Table Top
Yes, lines were engraved parallel to miter slots, or as close to parallel as I could. Between measuring and marking at front and rear of table, setting guide the proper offset distance from those marks to center of bit, I'm sure I'm off a little, but it saves me handling a ruler one more time to get...

Engraving Guidelines in 500 Main Table Top
GOAL : To be able set the rip fence in a fairly accurate position from the blade, and parallel to the blade, without a tape measure. Unlike fences on newer models, my rip fence doesn't always align perfectly parallel to blade. Having lines spaced 1/4" apart helps me visually check that fence i...

Re: Can a 12" Planer w/o feed motor be converted to manual feed?
Time for an update. I ordered what parts I could, along with a few other missing necessities like Owner's Manual, knife setting gauge, power coupler, etc. Thanks to Admin for posting the parts diagram. Not having to make the shaft or pinion gear was a real time saver, and the cost was surprising low...

Re: Can a 12" Planer w/o feed motor be converted to manual feed?
Another favor of the community please ... does anyone have a Parts List and Exploded Parts Diagram for a manual feed planer? In the process of adding the feed pinion to my cart to buy, other "suggested" parts appeared which look to be some of which I need, but I'm not 100% sure, as Shopsmi...

Re: Can a 12" Planer w/o feed motor be converted to manual feed?
Wow, just saying "thanks" seems like an understatement! Excellent pictures and descriptions (graphically and verbally) show more than I had hoped for. At least the pinion gear is still available so I won't have to re-create that. I may need a little time to fully digest all of this informa...

Re: Can a 12" Planer w/o feed motor be converted to manual feed?
Thanks, whenever you get a chance to take some pictures would be appreciated. No big hurry ... I've done without planer up until now and have plenty of other things to keep me busy. And I looked more closely at the exploded parts diagram and see that the safety key is still listed available, so I'll...

Re: Can a 12" Planer w/o feed motor be converted to manual feed?
I got it, and at an incredible price of $100! Appears to be in excellent condition except for missing the gear cover and feed motor. Also missing the clamping brackets to secure it to the Shopsmith way tubes, but I'm sure I can either buy them or make something to work. My intent is still to convert...

Re: Can a 12" Planer w/o feed motor be converted to manual feed?
Thanks to both cadman57 and JPG for their detailed, thorough, and large amount of information! You have given me new hope. I contacted Shopsmith CS at the same time of my original post and heard back from them yesterday, with not nearly so encouraging news, but I can understand that they probably do...
