Re: Upgrading a 500 (1985)
Welcome. The history, nomenclature, and various versions of Shopsmiths can be a bit daunting to anyone, but especially to someone new to Shopsmith. There are many forum members here willing to share their knowledge. My best advice is to read, read, and then read some more. In the Maintenance and Rep...

Re: Stand alone planer needs some help
In answer to your question about converting to manual feed, yes. Here is a link to my story: https://forum.shopsmith.com/viewtopic.php?t=16009 For planer parts, keep checking ebay. Set up an alert to notify you when new listings appear. Such listings are rare, but with a little luck and patience you...

Re: Model 10ER
Welcome! Other forum members who actually own or have restored a 10E or 10ER will no doubt respond soon. Under the Maintenance and Repair Forum, the first four (4) threads at the top ("stickies') are full of information you are seeking. Some will be more specific to a 10E/10ER, but all will ser...

Re: New to me SS M5990 planer - questions
I purchased one directly from Shopsmith when my used planer was missing one. Price has gone up since then. You might also try ebay. https://www.shopsmith.com/product-page/planer-control-box-safety-key If you don't have an Owner's Manual, you can download one from Everett Davis' Google Drive (link ca...

Re: Saw arbor & lower guard
Welcome, and I think I know the answer to this one. After the Mark V 500 came other versions (505, 510, 520, etc.) with a larger table system and different "standard" arbors. Yours appears to be one of those longer arbors meant for the newer table systems, or possibly for a 5/8" blade...

Re: Auction find and hopefully a longtime member
I rotated your pictures for easier viewing and identification of what you have. I see a bandsaw, jointer, jig saw, belt sander, wide extension table, and shaper fence, in addition to the main unit. Looks like quite a nice haul. Though, it is a bit like the scarecrow and pieces are here and there. Wi...

Re: Drawer box question
As for using 12 mm BB for the drawer frames, I’ve been wondering the same thing. After cutting the drawer bottoms from full sheets of plywood, I could still make all the frame components from the cutoffs. Does anyone know of any reason not to do so? Beautiful drawers! In my limited experience of ma...
