Ah..... Harbor Freight......algale wrote:Harbor Freight carries Evaporust.
My favorite store!!!
I know, a lot of people don't like them but they are great for those stupid little things. Even their tools are better than most Craftsman stuff these days.

Re: Shopsmith shipping thru Fed-Ex
For the past year, every delivery I was to receive from Fed Ex, was delivered to the local terminal, sent out for delivery, then at the end of the day, the tracking status is changed to "Handed over to USPS. Which now takes up to 3 days longer to get the package...... In the mean time, 2 Fed Ex ...

Re: Shopsmith sold??
Sad it was necessary, but apparently necessary to survive.
It's sad that many companies and small businesses have restructured, downsized or closed since the recession started in 2008......
Shopsmith is like The Baily's Building and Loan (It's a Wonderful Life).... They make a great product ...

As I get older...... It all comes slowly..... It seems...
OK.. I went down and played with the "Jointer". It works, took me only a few minutes to figure out the way the blade holder is in there. Removed it, cleaned the blocks on each end and reassembled. Figured out how the fence attaches and lock ...

Re: New guy with new purchase & a Few Questions
First that is a jointer, not a planer. Yes they are different. They do different 'jobs'. If you never used a jointer, the difference does not matter now. I predict it shall matter some day. :D

Yes, the belt was low in the upper sheave when running at the lowest speed. I'm going to wait till I get the belt before I tear it down and go through everything 100%, and will make the adjustment/Calibration/Synchronization at that time, never done that, but it seems pretty straight forward.

Re: New guy with new purchase & a Few Questions
Took the front cover off the head to get a look inside. Fairly clean and everything moves very freely. V Belt has definitely got to be changed, less than 1/2" wide and on the slowest of speeds (Beyond "Slow" on the dial) it comes about 1/8" + inches from the top of the pulley. Oiled the 2 spots, 1 ...

I feel pretty comfortable with the Shopsmith itself, the Bandsaw and the planer, as I have used these items many times in the past. The jig saw and the Sander I have never used, but they seem to be pretty straight forward.
