Re: Advice on a small morticing project
I tried it, your right the biggest problem I had was keeping the table stable. The 2X4 worked OK, but I think next time Im going to do something a bit more stable than wedging it. If I wasn't careful it would pick the whole SS up so it was difficult to keep in place. The other thing I found was the ...

Advice on a small morticing project
I've got a "small" morticing project that involves making a dozen or so 1/2" wide X 2.5" deep mortises in a 2X4. Without doing my homework I went ahead and bought the mortise attachments/bits that shopsmith sells. I have an unmodified 1950 SS (3/4HP). After reading some of the hy...

Re: PowerPro upgrade on eBay this morning
Gents, I think your all putting too much thought into the warranty angle. When I thought I might toss my bid in, I had assumed worst case (a) all the high price parts were there (picture seems to indicate that) and only the minor low cost parts were possibly missing and (b) the warranty basically do...

Re: PowerPro upgrade on eBay this morning
If you look at the bidding pattern, someone has an autobid. I had thought maybe I would replace my 3/4 HP with this rather than try to resurrect what I have (see very old shopsmith) thread from this past weekend). But, the price of this headstock is now up over 50% of the "new from shopsmith&qu...

Re: Very old shopsmith
No need to apologize, part of the fun of this is the back and forth. The unit originally lived in SoCal, it spent a dozen or so years in West Tx in my Dad's garage and then moved back to SoCal so its never really been in high humidity. I think that accounts for the small amount of rust. As I said Im ...

Re: Very old shopsmith
Ive attached some pictures of it. The SN on it is 281532 Ive read some of the stuff on line and I think it's an original greening. There is a pretty good coating of dust on it, very little rust. Im thinking that what needs to be done is more in the nature of cleaning, lubrication and given how long ...

Very old shopsmith
I've had a very old shopsmith in my garage for the last 13 years. The SN goes back to 1957 and as far as I can tell its unmodified. I do know the owner history, its an original Mark V, with the 3/4HP motor. It was owned by a retired WWII merchant marine ship captain and he apparently used it mainly ...
