Re: Joinery Question

If you have a biscuit cutter, use it. Based on what you show in the picture, that seems to me a natural application. Two biscuits along the line and some glue all along should hold this part 'for ever'. I am surprised that your customer gets involved with that much detail. And this is for a dog kenn...

Re: Le Machine that does nothing . . . .

I'm amazed at your ingenuity! Tell me, do you use your Shopsmith to make any of the parts for La Machine? When I started this project several years ago I had the Shopsmith and a small drill press. Since then I have added a small table saw and the Shopsmith is mostly used for the jigsaw, disk sander...

Re: Le Machine that does nothing . . . .

I almost forgot, but there is another gismo. Along the back wall are two grooves and little blocks that move back-and-forth as well as up-and-down with linkages that connect to a shaft (not shown). The blocks and grooves are tapered (dove-tailed) so they don't fall out. A video should show that bett...

No, La Machine.

Here is the next addition.
It is by no means finished, but might give you an idea what I am driving at. Those rods will do something and the whole will be 'suspended'.

Re: La Machine that does nothing . . . .

Wait a minute. Did you do what I think you did? I'm looking at the clown picture. It appears that the gear the clown drives is made from 6 separate triangles all mitered together, rather than simply being cut from a single piece of wood. Am I right? Yes, it is. And don't ask me why. Although for th...

Re: ShopSmith owner of 50 years with some comments . . . .

We should have been electing tradesmen, woodworkers, steelworkers, and machinists to Washington back then. They understand you have to build things to build industries to use them. Everett Here I don't agree (and I don't want to turn this into a political discussion on Christmas Eve). But electing ...

John, what ya mean??? I could if I researched and put my mind and skills to it. So please explain. :) Because I think Jacob's is way cool and just as good as the ones you linked to. Ahhh. and a Merry Christmas to you JS. Is it Jacob Smith?? BTW I should have called this 'La Machine' . At the time I...

Re: Le Machine that does nothing . . . .

Very nicely thought out and built. It reminds me of the hummingbird video that dhugger posted on Youtube. It was an engineering and artistic masterpiece, IMO. You engineers may not agree with the first part, I don't know. I can't get the link right now, since Youtube is deemed a security risk on th...

Re: Le Machine that does nothing . . . .

Ok Dave, here are two more pictures and a description of a couple components. The wheel with the six slots mates with the clown and the two rounded surfaces slide past each other. But underneath the clown's hat (below the little ball) is a 1/4 inch dowel that slips into one of the slots as the clown...
