Re: Drill Bit Sharpening
Thanks!
My browser keeps crashing when I try to reply.
My Smith came with emery cloth glued to the big sanding disk.
I'll have to try that.
It's an insult to call this a do-dad as though it's not much more than a gimmick. I almost sprung for a Drill Doctor but for under $30 I thought I'd give this ...

Re: Drill Bit Sharpening
I give up! What a hassle trying to get the photo small enough to attach.
Other forums are a breeze.

Drill Bit Sharpening
Today I mounted one of those drill bit sharpening rigs onto the table of the Shopsmith by drilling 2 1/4" holes.
I put them in the center and in line with the chuck -- could have offset them too I suppose.
I put one of those 8" thin stones in the chuck, but it seems to me it is too coarse a grit ...

Here's what I did with the axle shaft I ground down on the Shopsmith.

Re: Serial Numbers and Years
Where did this chart come from?
What do the names on the chart signify;
the current owner, the original buyer?
Was this chart compiled by SS owners on this forum over time?
Why have I not heard of this chart or seen it till now?
Where can the complete chart be found?
Just a few questions. :D ...

Re: Shopsmith Saves the Day
Took off the hose clamp and as I figured, er, hoped,
the spring has settled all the way into the housing as it should be.

Re: Shopsmith Saves the Day
I should put a pretty one on my coil spring housing . . .
it's a hose clamp that I put on to squeeze the crooked tail of the spring sticking up an eighth . . .
I didn't feel like rewinding it and knew that the clamp would be enough bearing on my spring end to keep it in and maybe to persuade it ...

Re: Shopsmith Saves the Day
P.S.
The axle shaft was good and heavy and the C-clamp at the far end was to keep it from trying to climb up -- which it didn't really want to do anyway. I did a few close examinations of the disk as well. I used the Smith sanding disk for a finer polish.
