Re: Turning off mistake
JPG, as I await the part to come in on my machine, I wanted to check in with you on the stop/start procedure.
It sounds as though it is NOT necessary to turn the control to slow, before turning off but more importantly to make sure the speed control is no t moved while the motor is off.
Also, when I ...

Re: Turning off mistake
I noticed in Nick Engler's Sawdust Sessions that he often shut down his machine without moving speed control at all.
I was trying to reconcile this with the accepted procedures.

Re: Turning off mistake
This is just a general question.
I plan to oil/ggrease every part I can touch.
On the shafts and the worm gear, is it better to use a white grease or oil

Re: Turning off mistake
No it appears to be gone. I did find those in the motor pan but they appeared to be crushed.wa2crk wrote:Is the retaining ring in place at the rear of the 6205 bearing? Just a thought.

Is there supposed to be a "cup" for the button bearing to ride in??

Re: Turning off mistake
JPG, LOOKS LIKE I'VE FOUND THE PROBLEM.
IT APPEARS THEY DROVE THE BUTTON BEARING SO DEEP INTO THE SHAFT END NO LONGER HAS A CUP FOR THE BEARING RIDE IN.
I'M GOING TO TRY TO ATTACH THESE PIX.
Says they are too large, will send to your email

Re: Turning off mistake
JPG, I'm going to take some additional pictures to see if you spot any other problems.
Assuming that I am unable to recover the button bearing, can that part be purchased from Shopsmith or do I need to buy the whole "pork chop" piece.
As soon as I get some different pix, I'll post them.

Re: Turning off mistake
Appreciate your info. I'm going to get the manuals out and see if I can fix this thing.
I've learned my lesson about allowing others to use it.

Re: Turning off mistake
I looked for the bearing in the motor pan, no luck. Hard to get hand under motor. Few metal shavings , not huge but some. Small washer (very light weight ).
Looking gloomy as far as fixing this mess.
Looks like I will be sending the head for repair.
IF I CAN TAKE IT OFF.
