1st I would recommend use what you learned in the class. 2nd will need a good set of turning chisels (spindle / pen are not same that are used for bowl turning) 3rd take a look on you tube Doug Reid has 6-7 videos on bowl turning using the shopsmith ... good luck like to see some pictures of the ...

have one for two now, best upgrade I ever made. I rather be making sawdust and seeing what skills I need to work on, than sitting in front of a computer ... I'm actually looking for inspiration / ideas for my next project. And your post caught my eye so here I am replying to it

Here are a few pictures of a bench I made for my niece and her husband to be. I got the idea / plans from Jay Bates Custom Creations on "YouTube"
I think it turned out pretty good.
