Re: disassembling a Shopsmith 10ER

No I don't have the jointer and the larger pulley has a chip missing. But I will save it, maybe I can weld a piece of aluminum to the gap and shape it, or cut a piece off the headstock pulley to weld to it since that pulley is chipped as well and needs replacing. Then if i find a jointer I'm good to ...

Re: disassembling a Shopsmith 10ER

I think one part is the original 3-step pulley and someone possibly added a single larger pulley

The picture shows the original Magna drive kit for the 4E jointer. The 3 step pulley is not the original. The original pulley bore is 5/8". The bore on the new pulley is 13/16 I think which is the ...

Re: disassembling a Shopsmith 10ER

Getting the pulley off took awhile but I finally got it off. Speaking of the pulley I have a question about that, there are large chips on both my motor and headstock pulleys so I
was going to get the upgrade ones that are 44.50 each on MKCTools.com but my pulleys appear different. My motor pulley ...

Re: disassembling a Shopsmith 10ER

Thank you for all the tips and links, they are all very helpful. I have managed to separate everything except for the 2 headstock bearings and spacer from the shaft assembly that sits behind the headstock pulley (see 1st image). I have used an inordinate amount of penetrating oil, but nada as far as ...

Re: Shopsmith 10ER Motor Disassembly

Thank you for the reply. I was trying what you suggested, and I noticed something that I wanted to ask about. There is no edge on the caps to use a mallet on, but there are 2 small screwdriver tabs on both ends that are 180 degrees from each other (see the first pic), so I was using those with a ...

Shopsmith 10ER Motor Disassembly

Hello, I wanted to take the casing off my Shopsmith 10ER motor so I can paint it. I took the capacitor cover off as well as the plate for the wire and the 4 bolts that go through the casing, but I can't for the life of me get the casing to separate. Is there some "trick" to getting it apart, or is ...

Re: disassembling a Shopsmith 10ER

Thank you very much, the penetrating oil worked great to get the drive sleeve out of the headstock. Now the pulley will not come off, even with a generous amount of penetrating oil. Any suggestions?

disassembling a Shopsmith 10ER

Hello everyone I'm Joe and I'm new to the forum. I just picked up a 10ER off craigslist and am working on restoring it. I have just about everything apart except I can't seem to figure out how to remove the headstock pulley assemble from the headstock. I removed the set screws from the headstock and ...
