Re: Its only money ????

I saw an article somewhere laying out various complicated reasons for the sudden spike in prices. Sawmill capacity seems to be the controlling factor. There was a reduction in sawmills due to previous declines in demand. Now that demand has increased sawmills aren't being re-opened quickly. 1. New ...

Re: Its only money ????

Yeah, I saw something else online that indicated the top 5 lumber producers in the USA are Georgia Pacific, Interfor, Sierra Pacific, West Fraser and Weyerhauser. So, G-P and S-P are private companies, but the rest are publicly traded companies so financials are available. So, Weyerhaeuser just repo...

Re: Its only money ????

That CENSUS data is interesting, but is there a summary document that explains it? Reason that I ask is it makes no sense to me. IF those are new housing starts, then why is there a 30% drop between Feb->Mar 2021 in the West where it is the opposite in the rest of the country? West should always be ...

Re: Its only money ????

Dusty Something must be wrong. Here in Florida the majority of houses are built from concrete block and stucco. Properly insulated and with correct AC sizing these homes constantly beat similar stick built homes built with normal insulation. The “experts” claim the mass of the concrete blocks provi...

Re: Its only money ????

I doubt that solution. I have worked in steel buildings here on the desert and as a result I prefer something other. I recently moved from a frame built house to a smaller brick and stucco and my electrical bill has gone up about 5% (same utility district). I know HOT. My workshop has always been o...

Re: Its only money ????

Well, they can always switch over to steel, as is used in many commercial buildings. I think Douglas Fir 2x4's in my area are on parity with steel 2x4's right now. Maybe in parts of the USA, steel is actually cheaper than wood. There is a learning curve to working with them, but carpenters can &...

Re: Metric Rulers???

That one is $63 because it is Starrett and happens to be made in USA. Not all of Starrett products are made in the USA, but this one is. Is your Woodcraft ruler made in USA?

Re: Magnetic Tape on 520 Front Rails

The best part of the discussions here are seeing different perspectives on how things are accomplished. Thanks Russ. Yeah, I never took the time to see if I could use my 520 rulers because I noticed how easily they were bumped or knocked off on mine. Dusty has indicated he has had some success usin...

Re: Jessem Clear-Cut TS™ Stock Guides on Shopsmith 520 Fence

Well, I guess it was only a matter of time before these were copied in China. What is interesting is that the price (to USA) is essentially the same as getting the original from Jessem, so why buy the Chinese version??? Apparently, these come out to about half price (according to reviews) for those ...

Re: New in the shop "The generic thread"

For the Festool TS55 saw the blade is 2.2mm, of course life is never so nice as to have every track saw use the same blade width. So check your saws blades width. If you happen to have a standard saw/blade it is likely you can get a set. I know they listed several sizes. https://www.strawbyte.com/m...
