I'm looking for a way to join 1/4 solid wood edge to edge and be somewhat strong. Any ideas???

I am rebuilding a 1980 Mark 5. I have removed the disc paper from the disc and have tried alcohal and minerial sprites to get the glue off with no success. does any one have any other ideas? Thanks; Ray
p.s. every is working fine after 15 years of sitting, I'm ready to build desks for the grandkids.
