The key on the idler shaft seems to be fine - there is really no movement of the control sheave on the shaft, and the control sheave slides freely. I did mildly file and polish the sides of the sheave vanes that were making contact. Also was able to seat the loop bearing back into the control sheave...

I pulled the idler shaft out and fiddled with the Control Sheave again. The Control Sheave slides freely on the idler shaft, but as mentioned before, the Control Sheave is binding against the Idler Sheave as can be seen in the photo. http://www.shopsmith.net/forums/attachment.htm?attachmentid=11220&...

Ok, have a problem. I cleaned all the components in the headstock, and was able to get the control sheave loosened.
