Considering trading or selling my 500

I bought this machine used for a good price and have added parts and tooling which has increased the investment by 150%. The machine now needs new speed control bearings and I don't want to keep throwing money into it. I'm thinking of offering it for trade for a floor model bandsaw as I only used th...

Funny I had that idea many years ago. Now everyone has one.
If I ever set up a full shop I will convert one to sand large pieces.

I'm gonna try a star bit hammered in lightly next before breaking out the drill. That suckers gonna come off.
Thanks Bill, I have a replacement setscrew.
If I find that the gears are chewed up I'll be contacting you again.

Set screw removal

I know this has been gone over a million times, but on my machine something inside the speed control has started making some terrible noise so I am attempting to remove the dial. The set screw is gaulled up from someone elses attempts making it so the 3/32 allen will not seat in the set screw. I've ...

Mine moves about 1/8th at the bearing. The smaller size blade tracks on the inside edge but the 3/8 blade tracks more center. The neoprene wheel is wore out and thats where the most vibration is from. The only tracking adjustment I see is on the front guides. I'm hoping that the new wheels will smoo...

Bandsaw upper wheel bearing play

Is it normal to have a slight play in the bearing or should it be tight?
The lower wheel has no play.
Shopsmith only offers the bearing included with the wheel.

I've ordered the correct hub and used duck tape to temporarily, run the saw. I had to cut out some blanks to keep the operation going. Tomorrow I'm clamping a short section of garden hose to get more torque so I can process some thicker pieces. After cleaning, lubricating, and adjusting, the power p...

Well I got the coupling package from Shopsmith so problem solved right? Wrong!!! The accessories hub has 4 spline grooves but the plastic coupling shaft has 5 splines on that end. So back to the pulley drive... Anyone know the rpm's of the mark V drive motor? I can figure out the nessessary speed by...

Why would be that I can get 2 pulleys and a belt for $12.00 and get the saw running until the drive coupler that is ordered but backordered arrives. Shopsmith said it might be a while and I need to use the bandsaw now. If I can't resolve the upper shaft slippage problem at a low cost then at least t...
