It's been a while
So the pile of Shop Smith parts have been sitting in my workshop taunting me for months now. I have been very busy at work and at home and have had little to no time to work on her. But alas it is fall in New England and the outdoor activities are quickly coming to an end so I might get some quality...

Further into the disassembly today
Drifted the roll pin out of the Hinge pivot pin. Drove out the pivot pin. Removed the set screw with a 5/32" bit in a screwdriver handle. Removed the bench tubes. Now I have a "Pile of Shopsmith", aluminum castings in one pile ready for paint stripper, Way tubes getting polished. I st...

That is the issue
That is partly the issue at the moment, I don't have a long 5/32" hex key. Just your standard run of the mill "Allen Wrench". I plan to pick up a long Allen locally this weekend, I hope to avoid the wait and the shipping and not order one from SS. I did recently ordered the "Owne...

Thanks again
Thanks again for all the great info. I guess I didn't look closely enough the first time around to see a hole for the roll pin to come out. I have a set of steel and a set of brass drift pins so I will definitely employ them in removing the pin. It just didn't appear that there was a place for the p...

SPT build dates
First off I promise to get some pictures posted this weekend and start a refirb/resto thread with my before and after pics. So I am redoing a 1954 Mark 5 and want to determine the age of the 4" Joiner and Magna Bandsaw, any help would be great. Second, I am disassembling the Mark 5 and strippin...

New thread coming.
Thanks for all the encouragement. My plan for tomorrow is to break out the digital SLR and take numerous "before" pictures. I will start a new thread. I welcome any and all comments and suggestions. I am a bit of a forum junkie these days. Take care. Jamie

Mystery solved
I applied a chemical stripper to the stand sheetmetal. Which is heavily rusted. I left the Peel Away stripper on over night, today I went to the basement and gently scraped a small area with a putty knife. More confusion. Under the Black was nothing but a rusty red primer. Hummph! I let it be and ac...

Out of the dust and rust.
My father in law passed away last year and, like me was an avid woodworker, I had only known him for a few years, as this was my mother in laws second husband, he was an Annapolis Naval Academy, grad of the class of '57, a career Naval aviator and a great guy. So a couple of weeks ago my Mother in l...
