Re: Re-outfitting a 510 SS to table saw mode
My comment above is that I find the thin kerf binds on the riving knife. But apparently Chris doesn't have that issue I’ve been using thin kerf blades with the 510/20 upper guard ever since SS introduced the SawSmith 2000 in the 90’s. That’s when they introduced their first thin kerf blade. If ever...

Re: Mark 7 self study guide vs vintage DecCristoforo book
Hmm, was just looking at that version in the link. I think this might be a bit of an error Yeah, wrong sander. The belt sander can be mounted on either side of the headstock so it does have an auxiliary spindle. The standard strip sander doesn't but I modified mine to mount the other way so it does...

Re: Re-outfitting a 510 SS to table saw mode
Yes, I saw people recommending regular thickness. I guess my question is, does the SS motor handle the standard width without problems? It should be fine. If you're ripping thick enough and hard enough wood you may have to slow down the blade and/or the feed. Unlike most table saws you can control ...

Re: Re-outfitting a 510 SS to table saw mode
If ripping is thy goal, a general purpose(aka combination) blade is not a good choice. Ripping requires very large(deep) gullets to carry away the swarf. Definitely this. With some wood boards will bind without a wide enough kerf. A good rip saw blade will look like a circle of chisels that cut nea...

Re: Need a manual for my SS Belt Sander 505642
Page 18 in the manual from Vintage Machinery has this note about the "trunnion lock" we discussed above: "If you adjust the trunnion lock so that you can quickly change positions, use the extra bolt that came with your machine to help stabilize the belt sander on its base. (You may wa...

Re: DIY Double Tilt Base Experiment
It can be done with two machines. I did this project for fun and to have a shorty bench that tilts both ways to work on headstocks. Even that function is not that useful with conventional headstocks but nice to have on a PowerPro head. Otherwise I have a 510 machine with a PowerPro headstock set up ...

Re: Sliding the headstock easier
I thought the theory in this was more that the tubes may be straight, but somewhat out of round and you were trying to get the headstock to slide on more rounded part of it. I think it's more likely the tubes are not straight and the distance between them at any one point varies. By rotating you ar...

Re: Any ideas for adding AC outlets to headstocks?
Also keep in mind that the OP is talking about a PowerPro, which exhibits little current demand under most conditions including startup. There is also a significant delay between turning on the main power switch and motor start up. The biggest issue I see with the OP's approach is that I utilize th...

Re: great grandfathers part replacement (hopefully)
I think Russ is correct. I don't have a replacement for a jigsaw table. Jigsaws show up on Craig's List occasionally so maybe you'll find one. Finding individual parts is unlikely so you'd need to find a whole unit. And you might need more parts than that anyway so if you can find one at decent pric...

Re: great grandfathers part replacement (hopefully)
That might be the front trunnion for the main table. The Shopsmith site lists it as unavailable. I have one I can give you.
