Re: Stand alone overhead router manual please!
The problem with melamine is that it sags over time, like the OEM table. If you go that route, I'd recommend adding some structural stiffeners to the underside of it. Have you considered unbolting the overarm post-mounting bracket from the original stand, and attaching it to your existing router ta...

Re: ZCI material
I had a ZCI insert made from luan plywood for my first machine, a 500. Not sure what happened to it, might still have it somewhere. Worked OK. If I had to make another one I was considering PVC sheet but then noticed HDPE sheets available on Amazon. Not sure how well either one cuts when a blade is ...

Re: Longer tubes
Noticeably bent or crushed would be unusual but owners have had to rotate their way tubes to keep them close enough to parallel for the headstock to slide easily. I think a lot of tubes aren't quite straight as a result of headstock weight in the middle. The most recent tubes from Shopsmith are made...

Re: Longer tubes
Plain cement or plaster might come apart from vibration but fiber reinforced concrete should work well. It shouldn't trap moisture if the tube is filled and the mix has the proper amount of water in it. As long as the mix is rammed into the tubes it will react with all the water and keep the tube se...

Re: An observation, more forum activity lately?
It has picked up. Some of it is the time of year, with summer over people return to indoor activities. I think in some years this results in more used Shopsmiths for sale as people want to make space for a new activity instead. Either way it's a good indication of continued interest in woodworking a...

Re: Longer tubes
1-1/2" EMT conduit has an outer diameter of 1.74". That's just slightly smaller than the 1.75" bench and way tubes and can be used to replace them. The metal is not quite as strong as traditional Shopsmith tubes so plugging the ends to prevent crushing has been suggested. I think exte...

Re: Stand alone overhead router manual please!
Anyone know what this is for? It's called a "spacer" in the parts diagram, so I know it's for the overhead router. I have no clue what it's supposed to "space". According to the manual it's used in the overarm router holder when you don't have a router mounted there. Not sure if...

Re: Another 'Newbie with questions'.
So why did Shopsmith change the 520 to have the Double Tilt feature? I believe it was more economical for them to have only one type of Bench Ends and Table Posts for the Mark V 520 (the only Mark V model left), Mark 7 and the recently introduced Mark 4. This is probably the case. A drawback to usi...

Re: Free Shopsmith parts - Help me get rid of stuff I don't need
A few items just for serious restorers: 1 Greenie tool rest holder, no post, no tool rest 1 Greenie fence with a broken knob 1 Greenie carriage (may be missing parts) 1 Greenie belt cover at least 1 3/4HP motor that works, and one that hums. If anyone has a Greenie motor pan I could use one. I can t...

Free Shopsmith parts - Help me get rid of stuff I don't need
The time has come for me to get rid of a lot Shopsmith parts and accessories I don't need. Parts are almost all Model 500 type. It will take me a while to inventory what I have and put up a list. However I've been sending out a number of parts lately, have firmly decided I'm not going to try to sell...
