Re: Headstock Lock Stuck

As suggested, I put the head stock back on. The lock mechanism at first seemed stuck. I twisted with more pressure and with a snap, it moved. The lock mechanism now works properly! Thanks much for the help! Jim

Re: Headstock Lock Stuck

When I turn the knob, only the front wedge moves. The back wedge does not move. Is that normal? Should I try and put it back on now to see if it locks?

The wedges are currently both at the outside of the tube.
Thanks, Jim

Re: Headstock Lock Stuck

Thanks for the reply. They didn't look like this when I took the head stock off. Not sure what had happened. There were cardboard tubes, but I suspect the wedges were not completely unlocked, because it binded about 3 inches in. Unlocked it, but then would not lock when the headstock was completely ...

Re: Headstock Lock Stuck

I have a similar problem on a new PowerPro headstock. The headstock slipped on easily but the lock does not move either way. Is the first step to remove the headstock? Or, try to force by hitting with a mallet? What should wedges look like when in the proper configuration for the headstock to be put...

Re: Broken Carriage Lock Help Needed

I finally got around to tearing it apart. The wedge lock had a burr. I filed it off. The carriage locks and unlocks normally now, so hopefully that was the problem. Thanks for the help! Jim

Re: Broken Carriage Lock Help Needed

I believe I do have a broken carriage lock on my 510. The table does not move either direction; doesn't move a hair. The carriage lever moves back and forth as before, but feels "different". Does this sound like a carriage lock problem? If so, any suggestions on how to get it apart? If I c...

Quill feed handle does not extend far enough into quill feed hub

Something happened to my 510 quill feed handle. I was drilling and it got lose. I tried to tighten, but the handle jams with only 1/8" extending into the 5/8" diameter hub cavity. This is not far enough to engage. I was hitting a stop when drilling so more pressure than normal on the handl...

Favorite plan sources

I like building picture frames, crafts and gifts. Woodworkers Journal has a good selection of such plans. My dad has subscribed for years so I have an almost full collection. I have also built things from Woodsmith and American Woodworker. EBAY is a great source of woodworking magazines. I also orde...

Kaleidoscope from Woodsmith #52

I made the Kaleidoscope from Woodsmith #52 for my wife for Christmas. I started with the Woodsmith kit containing the plans, lens and brass rings. This was by far the most complicated project I have attempted. Next project is to build a display stand. Anyone know of a plan for such a stand? Jim
