That was excellent - I love to see old Shopsmith gear rescued and working. Nice job! My compressor of the same era gets pretty darn hot. Your advice to lube is good - where did you lube? Also, did you get the pressure gauge at HF? That's a nice addition. Alec

When I had the gasket out I just ...

Video of my working air compressor!

Hey guys, here's a short vid showing my working air compressor after replacing the gasket. I can't seem to find much info on these old beasts, so I figured that you all would appreciate seeing one in action! :D

Nevermind, i realized that it couldnt screw down the way its designed, so a quick tap with the hammer on the screwdriver popped it right open!

Ok guys, i got the mushroom uncrewed, but the manual doesnt tell me how to separate the lower and upper part that the gasket is sandwiched in between. Does this unscrew or does it just pry apart?

Thanks guys, I'll try to make my own spanner wrench today with some hefty nails and some rock maple scrap I have. Hopefully that will get it moving!

Taking apart my OLD air compressor

Hey guys, I'm taking my air compressor apart to replace the gasket, and I can't seem to remove this last metal part that is supposed to unscrew. The owners manual shows some kind of U-shaped tool that fits into those two holes to unscrew it but the damn thing is so old I can't seem to get it ...

Gotcha, that's good info. I do have the manual, but haven't got into it yet as I haven't picked the compressor up off the shelf since I brought it home. Good to know I can get some replacement material for the diaphragm though. I'll have to look for the garden hose couplers.

At first glance, this ...

SS Air compressor

Hello guys,

So I'm getting into refurbing the last few accessories that came with my '55 Greenie, and one of them is an air compressor. This little fella:

I'm 29 and my grandfather gave me his father's 1955 Mark V Greenie last year, and now I'm using it to build guitars. :D It's still working great, and gonna be cutting a heck of a lot more wood for me!

Pliers would be an excellent way to either get hurt doing this job or to do damage.:(

An arbor wrench or an appropriately sized open end wrench.

No slip joints or adjustables.

Sorry, brain said pliers, but I meant wrench. I do need to get a couple decent adjustable wrenches though ...
