Moxon Vise (My Attempt) & bench dog questions

Here is the beginning of my attempt at building a Mononoke Vise. I’m using Maple (available in my area) and it’s 5 3/4w x 30l x 1 3/4 d. The hardware arrived today so installing that is the next step. My current thinking/plan is not to add a bevel to the front jaw (I don’t do a lot of hand work so I...

Re: Moxon Vice for Mark V

The springs compress down to a final span of 1". You will need to countersink this amount into one of the jaws in order for the vice to close completely. When you are laying out the drill holes for the threaded rods, plan ahead which jaw will have the recess for the compressed springs. I chose...

Re: Moxon Vice for Mark V

Thank you - I was wondering if you had utilized the shopsmith bracket for the extension table (shown below). Is there a reason you opted for an epoxy joint, perhaps the width of one jaw of the vice isn't wide enough to accommodate these brackets? b Capture.JPG I’m in the process of building one and...

Have a go and see what yours turns out like. Post some photos of your vice on this thread for all to see.... I am thoroughly happy with mine, and finding new uses for it every day. Great addition to the SS platform. Thanks for your interest. Hope this helps.... It certainly does. Thanks for the tip...

I did not video the build, but if you are interested in how I made it, reply to this thread. I have a few key photos and can describe the important steps and what I learned from this build. Hope you find this useful. Thanks This is AWESOME, what a great idea. I’d be very interested in more details ...

Re: New member introduction from NE Oklahoma

Unfortunately, the Jointer Manual (part number 556076) is not currently available for download or purchase. If you need one, we can help find a PDF for you to download from somewhere. I don’t know if this will help (different model #) I’ve got a PDF but it’s too large to attach here. If needed I’ll...

Re: SC Johnson Paste Wax

A few weeks ago these were available in my area, 4lb cans and he had 18 cases. Not JPW, but I assume close enough. I was going to buy some when I got back from vacation but they were no longer listed. I guess you snooze you loose.

Re: SC Johnson Paste Wax

I’m rich!!! :D As luck would have it, the Johnstown store was maybe ten feet out of the way on a weekend nature hike with my wife, so I stopped in and snagged a brand-new can. It won’t be needed in my shop for many years to come. But should street prices ever hit the $1000 per bottle that Pappy van...

Re: A classic is coming back… but only for a limited time 👀

In the best of all worlds Shopsmith would continue to support the conventional headstock as well as the PowerPro (and every other tool it ever sold). But a lot of folks on this forum have squealed at the prices of certain repair parts coming from Shopsmith and have gone elsewhere to find them. True...
