Re: christmas bowl

Well I have tried segmented turning and I'm doubly impressed. Well done.

Re: Where is the best place to buy/find wood.

There's a community of folks with bandsaw lumber mills and they can provide rough sawn lumber available in your area. The trick is finding them. I'm in central Virginia and I've found a few on Craigslist. Occasionally these folks have S4S lumber too. Around here I can find red oak, white oak, cherry...

Re: Heads Up - Bargain 'available'

This looks like a treat for someone that wants a SS to fix up...and actually at a decent price. http://richmond.craigslist.org/tls/5296385471.html

Re: Accessory Table problem

Did you 'treat' the "V" part or the flat top of the belt? I shoulda mentioned that. :o I treated both...it seemed more liberal. From what I read on the directions, I wasn't supposed to put more on than the belt could absorb. Thinking that the belt needed to absorb the conditioner, I figur...

Re: Accessory Table problem

I got some belt conditioner and used it liberally...though generally I'm a conservative soul.<g> It seemed to make things worse...much worse. So I figured I may not have been liberal enough and used some more and went through and lubed the sheeves. Then I reattached the belt cover, started the machi...

Re: Accessory Table problem

I've inserted the bench tubes to the stops on both ends. I'll skip trying to center things if that isn't important. Issue #2 is a belt that's apparently slipping. While I never had to change the belts on my first machine in 35 years, I don't know the history of this machine. It's less than 20 years ...

Re: Accessory Table problem

Well, adjusting the bench tubes did the trick. I set the machine on its side on the floor, loosened the clamps on both ends and inserted the table to get the tubes centered in the lower holes, tightened everything up and then set the SS upright. In the upright position the tubes are no longer center...

Re: Accessory Table problem

Ed, The fourth image (IMG_0148sc.jpg) is the one that shows the problem I have. I'm going into the shop to see what I can do to get the legs centered in the hole. My focus will be on adjusting the bench tubes....I wish I knew what the specs were for installing them. I'm guessing trial and error will...

Re: Accessory Table problem

The holes are 1.5" in diameter. And my recollection is this table has been stiffer than it should have been since I got the machine. Nothing looks catywompass or out of whack but clearly something has moved because in the past I could always raise and lower the table. After measuring the holes,...

Re: Accessory Table problem

You've got it. The tubes of the table are hitting the outside edge of the lower holes - the one's your picture has the arrows pointing toward. In fact where the arrows touch the holes is the point of the problem.
