I've always used the stock banjo. Interestingly, I just picked up a ~10-yr-old woodworking magazine. Some guy in there ditched the tool-rest on his dedicated Lathe, and put on a stock Shopsmith tool rest which he liked better. I like the tools rests also. They have a nice assortment of angles and c...

The ER's tailstock IS adjustable, just not that much. It isn't built to be run off-center, just to be able to align the centers. Banjo, would that be the base of the tool rest? Never heard of one cracking on any Model 10, but then, those are cast iron. steve The banjo that I cracked was on my 500. ...

Stock Banjo
How many of you use the stock Banjo with your tool rest for doing lathe work. Especially if you are turning bowls. I got the Heavy Duty after I cracked the stock Banjo. The problem with the Heavy Duty is the large bottom plate and sometimes the big wing nut on the arm. Those sometimes get in the way...

Got one thanks. I'm not familiar with the ER but the MT2 in the tail stock sure seems more stout that the way they do it now. But of course the new way you have some adjustment. The problem is if you are turning between centers and have a piece of wood a little out of balance it is very stressful on...

According to the diehard 10ER fans it is best gotten with a whole 10ER machine, which is what I, did but they do come up on ebay from time to time or perhaps someone here might have extra's laying around?? As I mentioned a lot of the MT2 parts have a long tang and this will not work with the method...

A new POW still will not solve the problem. Any time you want to have the tail stock to help support the project either the SR or the in the case of the POW the housing will hit the Heavy Duty Tool Rest plate. You can use an extension in the tail stock and then the live center but it can set up vibr...

Drive Center
When using a Drive Center on my mini lathe I can crank the tail stock (it uses a screw drive like most normal lathes) with a live center tight into the wood so that the drive center on the head pierces the wood to make sure it doesn't slip during turning. Since we can't do it that way can you exert ...
