I think if I was making a yo-yo I'd add a couple of weights to it, and use a metal axle. Wood's pretty, but every wooden yo-yo I've handled has not been massive enough to spin for very long.

I believe he's pointing out that a dial indicator on a miter slot bar is not the Shopsmith miter guage, a saw alignment disk is not the saw blade... and that differences between a measuring tool and the actual equipment can affect your cut.

Isn't "weed pot" redundant?

0.4XX?? That can't be right, the way tubes have a much larger diameter than that. And you said you'd "rotated" the tubes...a common cure for slightly bent tubes; you didn't say whether you'd swapped them around, one for the other.

I'd contact Shopsmith on this. If the old carriage rides the tubes ...

I'm not confusing them with the "Ted's 16,000 plans" scams. I think they are both a version of the same scam.

If anyone has actually bought content from joineryplans and wants to correct me, I'm open to new data.

And one more thought. The older models, the Mark V and Model 500, are ALSO good tools. Any Shopsmith can be restored, or upgraded to a later model with factory-available parts.

There are even a lot of people who prefer the predecessor, the Model ER, and have fun finding and restoring them.

Oh...and they are easy to work on. Almost any problem with a Shopsmith can be fixed by the user (although the factory does offer service as well.)

I'm going to assume you meant "Shopsmith"...the Sawsmith is a completely different and long-discontinued product.

The Shopsmith is a great tool for workshops with limited space. If you're going to share your garage space with your car(s), it's definitely worth looking at.
