I have been powering mine all the way down lately. I have found that if I don't especially in cold weather, the motor doesn't want to spin up, and bogs or trips the breaker. I do use the SS in temperatures much lower than what the motor lists it's operating temps at. Opps sorry this is an old post s...

One thing I have found helps a with sound/vibration and dust in the motor pan is duct seal compound. It is the stuff that never dries and is grey they sell at hardware store for about $5 for a big block. I put it around all the contact points of the headstock, were sheet metal covers have screws. Ju...

Any updates on this? Great idea, I have been thinking about using a treadmill motor the same way when the original goes out. But for $100 this would be a very affordable option. That motor looks like (aside from the flywheel and motor controller; which could be relocated) it should fit in the origin...

if someone had another style of band saw with a couple of pulleys that would work (or mount the pulley to the ss if that is possible). you might have to get creative with mounting the saw but it would be do able. might have to walk around the shopsmith to use the second saw though

Jere I feel for you. I have felt the wrath of SS worshipers for saying similar things. You are right the SS does have limitations and to try to poo poo them or to ignore them does not make them go away. I too love my SS but I know you can shove a contractor saw around all day, throw it up into the ...

I did not think you were fabricating that tale! Yes such comments are quite common especially from those not owning/using one. I also did not think Dusty was saying so either. I took Dusty's comment as questioning the veracity of the person whom you were quoting, not thee. And yes Ed's and Dusty's ...

back on topic I have bought a few movers dollies to harvest its casters. I put some on a shipping pallet, and it makes a great storage cart. I have loaded it up with bricks and cement and the casters glide around nicely even with all the weight. next i am plañing to pick up a set to move the project...

I would not give that statement any credibility at all. I'll not go into detail again, as I have done so many times before but the Mark 5/V is as accurate and as repeatable as any non-professional table saw on the market. Comparing it to professional table saws (Unisaw, Powermate, SawStop) it would...

I cannot tell from the pix if the collar has rubbing damage, but for sure it should NOT rub against the quill housing. I assume you have measured the shaft od at the bearing locations and the bearings match that. The 6202RS-10 has a 5/8" inner race. I do not know the proper bearing sizes for t...

That was the first 1984 double bearing quill. Shopsmith went to several different 2 part quills later that had a smaller back bearing 32mm than the front bearing 35mm. Their latest has a 40mm front bearing and a second 35mm bearing about an 1" back from the front bearing. I find if the poly-V ...
