Note: the harder the wood the easier it is to turn. Fir 2x4 is about the worst. Softer wood tends to be more stringy and pulls rather than cuts.

Not a lot of Shopsmith

Father/Daughter project. Housewarming gift for her friend. Only used drill press to drill holes in Skis. Picked up the skis at a surplus store for $2 pr. Hoping it will be durable in weather.

He reports that he uses Smooth On, a two part epoxy. works well on wood and fiberglass. His bows are beautiful an work very well.

epoxy

I am using Penn State Industries, PSI Mid-cure Epoxy. My shop is down around 40 so I set it in the heat register before I use it. I think I used another epoxy early on, but have had good results with this. The more transparent the better.

Here are a couple of more. They are out of a slab of walnut a friend gave me. There is a knot that run threw, in one side and out the other, As i turned it the know opened up and parts flew out. Again I used some colored epoxy, turned out OK.[ATTACH]24025[/ATTACH][ATTACH]24026[/ATTACH]

A friend of mine is into cutting whiskey bottles. Gave me a few, this one is a 750ml cut off about 5" high. My wife decided it would look better with a lid. Only real problem is in the dishwasher, all of the labels come off!
