Re: New Member starting Restoration

I've always bought belts from Shopsmith, their sizes are not readily available though there are one or more ebay sellers that carry replacements. That said, people here have recently reported receiving a BESTORQ 4L260 for the motor belt. As far as I'm concerned the jury is out on the performance of...

Re: New Member starting Restoration

As far as the 510 or 520 model , I am still learning , reading this forum and watching u tube. How do I tell the difference? Both 510s and 520s use steel tubes to support floating tables. On 510s, those tubes fit within other steel tubes that are attached to the tables. On 520s however, the support...

Re: markv drive belt size

Yes there are arguments for and against here in the archives. Seems like Bill Mayo ultimately decided that the wear is not excessive enough to be concerned about. I'll run it for a little while and see how it goes. I may end up going back to a conventional belt. But I was not happy with the one I go...

Re: Belt specs vary

I've installed the link belt. With it, I get RPM from 500-5000 (+/- a few tens of RPM). This is the belt that I installed on the machine last year, brand new from Shopsmith. It's 0.49" wide. I felt like with it, the speed control was non-linear at the slow end. It seemed like from "slow&qu...

Re: Belt specs vary

Reviving an old thread... I was reading threads here by Bill Mayo and others about switching to a link belt. I have a green one of unknown origin that I just measured for width and it's right at 0.543". Out of curiosity and to compare, I dug out a couple of used belts I had in a box. Both were ...
