Re: Today in the shop: Some turning

Both kits are from Penn State Industries, you can search for them on the web site:

pennstateind.com

Or if you have trouble locating them let me know and I will get you the information.

The turning is easy on both of these, putting the mirrors in was a bit of an issue for me......

Re: Today in the shop: Some turning

Found out the one on the far left is Teak. I do shop the bargain bins and likely as not the woods are not labeled and it can be pretty hard to id what is what. When I turn pens and know what the wood is I put a label with it and it lets me do compares and something figure out what the unlabeled blan...

Re: Rockler Self-Centering Drill Vise Preview

When I purchased this jig I wanted the feature and wasn't really planning on use it for drill pen or other blanks with it. I have a set of jaws for my Nova chucks that allows me to drill on the lathe and that has been my go to method. Since I have the vice and had the other shopsmith set up for othe...

Re: Woodpeckers Freehand guard and me

Some changes or should I say additions to the part today. I had used some wood screws to hold the Incra jig in place but since it is likely that I will not store the two together due to where the Incra jig lives plus the fact that the jig has slots that allow movement, so a change. I went with some ...

Today in the shop: Some turning

Actually some of the turning happened yesterday but lets not count that. I had a few gift projects stored up and wanted to get at them. First was some Kaleidoscope Necklaces . The second was some Mini Scissors. Yesterday I stated on one of the scissor blanks but tried to cut too deep and got to the ...

Re: Woodpeckers Freehand guard and me

After thinking things over I decided to change the two offending holes to ovals. I'm not using the hole for precision locating just as mount points so if they are off a bit it will not be an issue. However returning the part to its last fixtured location to make the added cuts would be some what of ...

Re: Woodpeckers Freehand guard and me

The 96mm hole spacing means the diagonal of the holes is 135.76 to 2 decimal places so if I wanted to put the fence at a 45 degree angle to the normal of the table I need the that hole spacing. Each of those holes are off my 5mm and I'm not sure how or if I should try to fix this. I don't have a par...

Re: Woodpeckers Freehand guard and me

I started working on my next fence option today. I have one of the old Incra fences and it doesn't get much use anymore so I thought I would bring it out of retirement and give it an active role on this router table. Of course the SO works to do such things and since I have it I used it to cut out t...

Re: Woodpeckers Freehand guard and me

With the clear guard in place it will allow 1-1/2". I have not physically check that but I expect it to be very close to that. I have since moved in to lathe work and have not had a chance to test the dust collection. I plan to stop at Rockler soon and will see if they have some sort of an adap...
