If I was in the market for a new shop tool I certainly would not rule out the Mark V Model 510/520. Mine have served me well and I put them through the paces from toys to homes/garages/work shops.

I suggest that if you are making a cross cut sled "make it". .This way you can make "mill" the miter bar to fit the miter slot. The SS miter bar allows some wiggle room that I find unwanted.

The space below the Mark (between the four legs) has always been wasted space in my shop. I have just never done anything about it except to stack tool boxes and park vacuum cleaner or air compressor there.

Do the scars occur on every piece that you pass through the planer?

If it is certain that there would be scars, I'd pass a test piece through the planer but turn the planer
off half way through the cut. Does the scar stop in the middle of the cut.

Taxes are DONE. FINALLY Toughest year that I can recall and I can't figure why! Maybe it is just because I am getting too old for this.
