Re: Mounting wood on lathe tailstock

If you do not do what BuckeyDennis said you will probably split most hardwoods. I drill the hole slightly smaller than the maximum diameter of the conical point and then make sure that the ring is embedded into the stock. The ring does not have to be embedded very far just enough to hold the piece s...

sawstop

Does anyone on the site own a Sawstop saw and if so do you have any problems with it? In particular, do you have any unexplained firings of the brake mechanisms?

Re: Greenie headstock reassembly - single remaining set screw

3/32 set screw. Could that be the one for the speed control handle? The one that secures the handle to the speed control shaft? If so it should be a standard set screw not a dog point or a pointed one. That is the only place that I can recall using a 3/32 Allen wrench during an overhaul.

Re: Near miss: foolish mistake

it would not completely prevent it but it may prevent the piece from contacting the blade at the peak of rotation. I always keep the splitter on when using the table saw. This time I was making a quick rip cut cause I missed one piece. So splitter and upper guard were just removed and I was in too m...

Re: Near miss: foolish mistake

I think that this called educational reinforcement. Painful but it does remind us of our frailties. I was doing some Toys for Tots projects a few years ago and was breaking down to do another setup and found one piece that I missed. I decided to make the table saw cut without putting the splitter ba...

Re: drilling oiling holes in control sheave or sheaves?

The oil holes only need to be drilled in the sheaves that move along the length of the shafts. One is on the motor sheave and the other is on the control sheave. Drill the hole near the hub of the sheave. About 1/8 inch hole will do the job. The speed has to be set in the high speed position to find...

Try the above website from Nick Engler. I think that they are still available from Nick and or Shopsmith. It should contain the info you need.

Re: Jointer fence won't stay locked

there should be a small pin about 1/4" long by about 1/8' in diameter in the quadrant on the fence. If the pin is missing then the fence will not lock properly.

I am looking for a set of plans for the three leg candle stand table that Shopsmith used at the academy classes in Dayton. Anyone have any suggestions?

Re: Start trips breaker

Is it possible for you to monitor the line voltage during startup? The problem may be caused by the line voltage dropping during startup due to losses in faulty wiring external to the Shopsmith.
